Computer Forensics is an application of the scientific method to digital media to establish fact.  The purpose of a computer forensic examination is to determine the who, what, when, where, and how certain events or allegations occurred involving digital media.  It is frequently conducted in support of either internal or external investigations or as part of the legal discovery process.  It is particularly relevant in cases involving the theft of intellectual property, inappropriate employee conduct, unauthorized file access, and harassment / discrimination allegations.
